Normative Position
Architecture is for people, but ‘people’ is a term used to describe a collective while most people in some way divert from the majority. We should strive to always investigate ways in which to design for the individuals within the collective in order to best respond to individual stories and to add value to the lived experiences of every single person that interacts with the spaces we create.
I also believe that our societies and economies are nested subsidiaries of nature and thus the interests and wellbeing of the environment is synonymous with that of humanity and our continued advancement. This leads me to say that the path towards prosperity in all three spheres is congruent rather than at odds with one another. Subsequently I support the notion that in the long run, nothing else will matter if we do not find effective ways to be environmentally, socially and economically resilient, responsible and sustainable.
Lastly, I think there is a vital and unique relationship between construction and theory that enables the design of spaces that add value and enrich experiences. Architecture is the product of combining the constraints inherent to a project with abstract conceptions such as regionalism, individualism, phenomenology or complexity. Key to this is de-siloed thinking, continued learning and seeing every small decision as an opportunity to enhance the experiences being designed.
